Dial-Up Networking Setup Instructions
Setup on Windows 95 / 98 / ME
- Double-click the My Computer icon on the Windows Desktop
- Double-click the Dial-up Networking icon.
- Double-click the Make New Connection icon. If there are other connection icons here from other ISP's, ensure you are no longer using their services; if this is the case highlight them and delete them.
- Type Compu-SOLVE for the name of the computer you are dialing. In the Select a modem section, you should see the name of your modem driver. Click Next to continue.
- In the telephone number field, type your access phone number from your Internet Code Sheet and click the Next button.
- Click the Finish button to return to your Dial-up Networking folder.
- Highlight (click once) your Compu- SOLVE icon. Click the File menu at the top of the Dial-up networking folder and select Properties.
- On the General tab, verify that you have the correct access number.
- Click Server Types tab and if it isn't already, set the Type of Dial-Up Server to PPP: Internet, Windows NT (If using ME PPP: Internet, Windows 2000 )
- Under Advanced options make sure only Enable Software Compression is checked off.
- Under Allowed Network Protocols, disable (uncheck) IPX/SPX and NetBEUI and make sure TCP/IP is checked. li>
- Click OK to return to the Dial-Up Networking folder. You are almost
- Click once on your Compu-SOLVE icon with your right mouse button.
- On the popup menu that appears, select Create Shortcut.
- When Windows asks if you want to create the shortcut on the desktop, click 'Yes'.
- Close the Dial-Up Networking and the My Computer window. You should now see the new Shortcut to Compu-SOLVE on your desktop.
- To connect to the Internet, double click this Icon, enter your username and password as shown on your code sheet (remember this is case sensitive) then click on the connect button. You will then hear the modem dial; see 'verifying username and password' and then 'registering your computer on the network'. Once this is done, simply open your Internet Explorer or Netscape web browser and start surfing!NOTE: This setup configuration assumes that you have already installed Dial-up Networking and the TCP/IP protocol.
